Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I use BlisterShield?

A. BlisterShield is a powder that is shaken into the socks and shoes before an activity. It was officially supplied to every runner in the 2002 Boston Marathon. It can be used for ANY AND ALL demanding sports and provides a great benefit in promoting energy during regular standing or walking. BlisterShield is designed for external use only.

Q. Will BlisterShield improve general foot comfort?

A Yes it will improve general foot comfort, preventing itching and tired feet which are often caused by excess friction and heat buildup in the shoe or boot. BlisterShield prevents friction. When the foot moves in a friction-reduced environment it moves more efficiently. Less energy is expended during any activity. That's how BlisterShield works to promote comfort and increased energy!

Q. How often can I use BlisterShield?

A. BlisterShield can be safely used every day. Pour a level of teaspoon into each sock. Work it evenly through the sock. That's all there is to it. If the day's activity is especially vigorous, a second application of BlisterShield may be helpful but not always needed.

Q. What can I do to eliminate friction and rubbing?

A. First be sure abnormal mechanical causes are identified and eliminated. The most common mechanical factor is poorly fitting footwear. Loose or repaired socks, as well as boots or shoes that are too tight or too loose can cause pressure areas that lead to blisters. Faulty technique in a sport can also cause blisters. A runner may overpronate and could benefit from orthotic control. An inline skater may push off too forcefully with toe wheel. This could be improved by better use of the heel wheel.

Q. What Causes Blisters?

A. Many techniques and products have been tried to eliminate the friction that causes blisters. until now none has worked very well. Older products either stick to the skin (often causing and additional pressure areas) or try to coat the skin. Some preparations were greasy and caused slipping which led to even more trouble. Tom Lewis one of the co-founder of this product who has a PHD in Surface Chemistry has discovered a product that acts as a virtually frictionless barrier between the skin, sock and shoe. The product... BlisterShield. This revolutionary powder will not harm your skin. it forms a safe separating layer that reduces the rubbing, which causes blisters. The foot will not move excessively either.

Q. What can I do to prevent blisters?

A. Blisters are caused by concentrated pressure on the skin. This pressure is usually the result of rubbing which produces heat. The heat separates the layers of skin and fluid develops between the separated layers. This fluid-filled pocket is the blister. Something is needed to prevent local heat and pressure from developing. The Answer - BlisterShield products!

Q. Can I use BlisterShield on open wounds?

A. BlisterShield works to prevent blisters. Although it is a very safe product, it should be used on closed healthy skin. If the skin has such conditions as cracks, athletes foot or rash, be sure those problems are cured before applying BlisterShield.

Q. Can I use BlisterShield to treat blisters?

A. BlisterShield is formulated to prevent blisters. If it was not used before the activity and a blister developed, treat the condition as suggested by your podiatrist or other physician. After the damaged skin develops a new touch cover, (usually about two days after blister formation) and no infection has occurred, BlisterShield can be applied to prevent future blisters.

Q. What are the active ingredients in SportShield?

A. SportShield is Silicone based Dimenthicone, PDMS is the most widely used silicon-based organic polymer and is particularly known for its unusual rheological (or flow) properties. PDMS is optically clear, and, in general is considered to be Iert non-toxic and non-flammable. It is occasionally called dimethicone and is one of several types of silicone oil (polymerized siloxane). It's applications range from contact lenses and medical devices to elastomers; It is present, also, in shampoos (as dimethicone makes hair shiny and slippery). Plus Aloe Vera extract and Vitamin E (Tocapherol).
